Our Bedroom/Closet Remodel

It is easy to remeber what our closet/bedroom situation was not too long ago..Last year (as in 2007)Bryon and I began the work in the room or rooms I should say. There were two bedrooms that adjoined with a seperated closet between, providing one small one for each. Bryon had one closet and I had the other. I did get the bigger one, but the problem was the racks were situated so that one sat behind the other so you had to make a hole in the front section of clothes then lean through and dig to the back row. This was not really the ideal situation. So, what we did was take down the wall partition that had the two rooms seperated as pictured here:

We began taking this wall down, we knew it was not load bearing because Papa Joe had added it in to give the two bedrooms a closet space. I am sure he did he know when he was building this that years down the road it was going to come out (as evidenced by the 1000 nails in every board :0). This was only the first step. There was a lot of wiring to be moved, because both closets had a light in it. We moved one of the lights over to the CURRENT closet and then the other stayed in nearly the same spot and became a track light over the bed. We moved the door to the bedroom over to give us more wall space in the bedroom as shown here:

As you can see above, this resulted in also having to move the light switch because it was situated right beside the old door..now in the middle of the wall. This was not done at that time.

This psat Christmas break (as in 2008) we began working on the room again. We took a year break because there was so much that we did the year before. Ugg...looking back on it now I don't think we should have waited that long. It just caused us to be out of our room soo long! OH, I forgot to mention earlier that we also moved the old door that had gone between the two bedrooms to give more wall space there, and made them small french doors. Pictured here:

So, now to tell you about what we have done in the past few weeks :0) We have gone in and totally redone the ceiling including taking down all of the old celotex tiles pictured here:

And have now torn all of that down replacing it with a beautiful bead board ceiling. The ceiling was so unlevel that we had to make a drop ceiling. We found and measured the lowest point. We then measured around the room and that gave us a starting point so that we would know it would all be level in the end. Each board has six specially cut and measured blocks and there are 30 rows of boards 1 x 8. In the end that came out to be a lot of cuts, and Bryon and I really really got to try out our new tools and ladders.

ok and now here is the finished ceiling! It looks beautiful, and so do the lights! We have to hook up the center ceiling fan and all will be finished. I can't wait to move in. I am going to finish up painting the walls and trim today, and we have to wait for Tony Maddelena to re-finish the flors before we really move in. The last thing we are going to do is apply large boxes behind the nightstands, and on either side of the dresser to place art work and give some visual interest. Here is a picture of finished ceiling and what the floors look like now. The floors are messed up because of the wall that was there before...soon to be a smooth transition and a glossy coat!

I will post a picture of what the room looks like with all lights up, and the walls painted very soon!
