WIP -Aloha-

Ok so I am very excited to be starting this quilt ...I have been dreaming it up in my head for quite a while now so let's get to it! I am starting out by drawing a huge paper pattern, that will then be transfer to smaller freezer paper patterns, and the completed quilt will have pieced parts, turned under applique areas, thread sketching, maybe some hand embroidery, 3D flowers (not sure how this one will go but it will be trial and error), and in the end hopefully tell a story as well. It will be a travel quilt that will document not only a past trip to Hawaii, but also be taken with my husband and I when we go on our next trip to Hawaii......in MARCH...yes you heard that right....MARCH as in like 10 weeks (I have have a count down going on). It will be a small throw size, but I do plan on putting a lot of time into the project to make it unique, meaningful, beautiful, and most importantly one of a kind!


Fabric Choices...when looking at this picture I am thinking it looks drab....but I promise the colors are far from that! I picked out mainly batiks with a few other solids thrown in there. As time progresses hopefully it will become more clear the "master plan" (for you and for me!! haha)




The drawing started...minus the small appliques. Also, my 21 month daughter wanted to "draw" too....so there's her handiwork to the side! This is the ocean with a lagoon like look to it, with mountain range in back and beach in front. There will be greenery and flowers scattered along the right side as well as the left front corner.

A Quilt for Dad

I made so many gifts..but waited so close to Christmas this year to do them! Here is the quilt I made for Dad using matrix to quilt the blocks, and I used spiral ornaments to do the sashing. I think it turned out good. I also made oven mitts that I am having trouble uploading pictures of, so for now we will just go with the quilt!  

Starry Buggy Mess!

YAY! First Quilt Along Link Up!     This week I have been trying to pump out a few Christmas gifts that I have been working on, and decided to use some of the "quilt busting methods" as described by Leah Day in the Free Motion Quilt Along....I am so proud of my progress that for the first time I think I will link up! Here is a picure of the "Bug in A Jar" quilt I designed, quilted all over with starry mess. I did not overlap the stars but I am very happy with the result of this quilt ...and I was able to quit this entire toddler sized quilt in a few hours this morning.

    What little boy wouldn't like a bug quilt? :0) I made one for my nephew a couple years ago of the same fabric and he LOVED it! All that's left is to hand stitch the binding down. A great activity to do at night in front of the TV hahah!

Well what can I say?! It has been entirely too long, and I am going to try and add things on the Blog as often as I can. There are social outlets such as Facebook and Twitter, and so I think the need to update this Blog slipped to the bottom of the priority list. I now have a renewed interest to upload current projects and link up blog posts with sewing interest sites I am following, so let's give blogging another shot! I can't promise I will do what I say (update often), but I will do better than going two years without posts! There is just way too much that has happened to try and fill in the time I missed, but let's hit the highlights. I have a daughter now that is 16 months old (not eight weeks in utero as listed in my previous post), and the house remodel is pretty much complete with the exception of piddly things we do all the time (And let me tell you it really is ALL THE TIME). I will update with sewing items I am working on, as well as yard and house projects that are ongoing. (NOTE TO SELF: Ok, this is wearing me out thinking of all these posts I am going to be writing...are you sure you want to do this...:0)

Our Baby at 8 weeks

Well it is hard to tell what you are looking at, but the head is at the bottom and the dark spot is the developing brain. This is an ultrasound at eight weeks one day. We also head the heartbeat at this doctor visit and the heartbeat was 169 beats per minute. This is fast, but they say at that stage that all heartbeats are fast. We are already trying to figure out if it is a girl or boy. There was a rumor that girls heartbeat is faster than boys, and I know some people this turned out to be true for, and others that it did not. We will see! Maybe at the twelve week appointment on September 1st!
